De-Roboticize Yourself Part 6: Reality Tunnels
(See Comic) Most people are Naive Realists. And put simply, a naive realist is a person who believes the world he or she perceives is the real objective world. Although most of us may be able to look into the sky and say, that is the sun, we all experience the sun differently. One person may see the sun simply as a sign of a nice day. Someone else may see the sun as nuclear fusion in process. And someone else, like poet William Blake, may see the sun as a hundred angels singing “Holy, Holy, Holy!†Who is right? Well, that depends on your own experience. And it also depends on your objective. According to the 8 circuit model of human consciousness, our experiences and objectives are predominantly programmed by the way we are individually imprinted. If we just look at the first two circuits, bio-survival and emotional-territorial, we can start to build a grid of general types of people and how they experience the world based on their imprints. On the bio-survival circuit, a person either gets an imprint that the world is safe or dangerous (and lots of things in between). And on the emotional-territorial circuit a person gets and imprint of being strong or weak (and lots of things in between). By combining the imprints on those two circuits we get 4 general types of people. Hostile Weakness I’m Not Okay, You’re Not Okay criminal Hostile Strength I’m Okay, You’re Not Okay tyrant Friendly Strength I’m Okay, You’re Okay benevolent leader Friendly Weakness I’m Not Okay, You’re Okay benevolent follower If we add the third circuit(the semantic circuit, infophobe or infophile imprint), things quickly get more complex. And things get even more complex when the fourth circuit (the socio-sexual circuit, normal or deviant imprint) is added. However, since most people are dominated by their lower circuits, a lot can be gleaned about a person just by studying her or his first and second circuit imprints. Inevitably, since we all have different imprints, we all live in our own little reality tunnels. And if we got rid of all forms of the verb to be in our language (be, is, am, are, was, were, been and being), as was suggested by philosopher Alfred Korzybski, we’d be much more attuned to that fact. And we’d also avoid wasting time arguing with people over things like, whose music is better, Snoop Dog’s or Beethoven’s. It all depends on your imprints and thus your objectives. Some people were imprinted to respect Snoop Dog and some people Beethoven. If you were to say, according to my version of reality Beethoven’s music is far superior to Snoop Dog’s, that would be a truthful statement. Yet, it would also recognize the other person’s reality. To exist in this universe means to be trapped in a particular tunnel vision of reality. But you can at least expand your tunnel into more of a landscape by awakening higher circuits. Because with higher circuits, you start to gain more control over lower circuits and so your imprinting becomes less rigid and more malleable. Sometimes it is good to have some hostile strength. And sometimes it is good to have some friendly weakness. You want to be flexible and not a robot so that you can make choices that truly lead to happiness instead of trying to just satisfy your roboticism. Freedom of mind is freedom from misery.
De-Roboticize Yourself Part 5: Socio-Sexual
(See Comic)This is basically the “good parent” circuit. It is the circuit responsible for social rules. People dominated by the Socio-Sexual Circuit tend to be “pretty.” (Which isn’t to be confused with “hot.” “Hotness” has more to do with the emotional territorial circuit.) The socio-sexual circuit is foremost involved with controlling procreation by defining what is right and wrong (moral and immoral). In that sense, the socio-sexual circuit could be called the guilt circuit since it facilitates a lot of guilt in people. That underlying guilt is why people (good robots) often use words like “dirty” and “naughty” when referring to sex. The one rule shared by all cultures regarding sex is that there must be rules. The socio-sexual circuit is usually imprinted around puberty by a person’s first sexual experiences. The imprint helps define tastes and either makes a person sexually normal, within the definition of a given culture, or deviant. For instance, if you wanted to be a sexually normal person relative to the laws regarding sex in the United States you’d want an imprint that makes you heterosexual and interested in long-term, monogamous pair bonding, with a partner within consensual age. Unfortunately, or fortunately, not all people get that law abiding imprint for many reasons–including because people’s parents have deviant imprints and so have a deviant influence. That causes problems. In a sane society, sex rules would be accompanied by precise sexual initiation rituals to assure people would get the desired imprint. To leave people on their own to hopefully develop sexual imprints in line with societal norms is not a very realistic premise. Nonetheless, since the socio-sexual circuit is a relatively higher circuit, it is more easily re-imprinted than the lower circuits. Consequently, people often experience fluctuating sexual tastes through their lives as their original imprints are tweaked and re-imprinted. Overall, due to ever changing pop-culture styles and trends, different generations tend to develop different general turn-on’s. You can greatly improve your chances of getting laid by a common human robot by exploiting the sexual imprinting related to popular styles and trends. But that won’t help you find true love or a non-robotic mate. In fact, it will most likely just hinder that. If you familiarized yourself with most of the techniques out there on seducing and winning over mates, you’d see that they play off manipulating the emotional territorial circuit (giving off signals of an Alpha-male or Alpha-female). Since that is the level most people operate off of, those techniques tend to work. And they especially work well when people are under the influence of Alcohol since alcohol stimulates emotional territorialism. But on more sophisticated and un-intoxicated people you’ll find much less consistent results. In general, a person with a well developed socio-sexual circuit will not seek out a mate who is simply a good warrior or who has a certain idealized type of body. Instead, a person with a well developed socio-sexual circuit will seek out a mate who will make a good parent. It has been scientifically recognized that scrawny beats brawny when mature women are looking for a long term mate. In the 8 circuit model, this scrawny over brawny pattern is attributable to the fact that brawny men tend to be more emotional territorial centered instead of socio-sexual (good parent) centered. Exercising this circuit: In general, to break rigidity and guilt stemming from the socio-sexual circuit, you basically want to get over it, and if necessary, get off by it. Think back on your first sexual experience(s). Think of the stimuli (person you were with, images, or thoughts). Think of the surroundings (car, pool, room, music). In what ways do you think those experiences imprinted you? Write an essay explaining why your views, rules, and practices concerning sex are good ones compared to other people’s. Use specific examples of your views, rules, and practices concerning sex having good, joyous outcomes. If by doing this exercise you begin to question your views, rules, and practices concerning sex, think of things you would like to change. Sexuality & Morality Imprinting: Imprinted by first sexual experiences. Main Concern: Is this moral or immoral? Imprint: Normal or Deviant? Drugs that emphasize this circuit: Low Dose MDMA The Domestic Circuit (Sexual)
